Quotable Christmas…My Top Twelve Cockle Warmers…

Quotable Christmas…my top twelve cockle warmers…Christmas is much more than the tinsel, the turkey and the tantrum over who has to sit next to Great Aunty Bertha. The 25th December is infinitely more than a date: it’s a state of mind. A collective state of mind. Of hope and family, kinship, sharing. Interestingly we also don’t seem to be able to mention Christmas these days without adding in the world “stress” – the stress of the organisation, financial commitments, inevitable family drama and so on. I am choosing to look on the sunniest side today and park the potentially stressful side of Christmas in favour of the huge uplifting aspects. What we look for we get more of so here are my favourite uplifting Christmas quotes to get your seasonal juices flowing and up shift the perspective if you need it from the “getting stuff done” frenzy! Uplifting, plus as few chuckles too –

“They err who thinks Santa Claus comes down through the chimney; he really enters through the heart.”
~ Mrs. Paul M. Ell.

“Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before!
What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store?
What if Christmas…perhaps…means a little bit more!”
~ Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

“The main reason Santa is so jolly is because he knows where all the bad girls live.”
~ George Carlin

“He who has not Christmas in his heart will never find it under a tree.”
~ Roy L. Smith

“One of the most glorious messes in the world is the mess created in the living room on Christmas day. Don’t clean it up too quickly.”
~ Andy Rooney (1919-), American writer, producer, humorist

“Christmas, my child, is love in action.”
~ Dale Evans (1912-2001), American film actress, singer and songwriter

“I stopped believing in Santa Claus when I was six. Mother took me to see him in a department store and he asked for my autograph.”
~ Child star actress Shirley Temple

“I once bought my kids a set of batteries for Christmas with a note on it saying, toys not included.”
~ Comedian Bernard Manning (1930-2007)

“And so this is Christmas . . . what have you done?”
 ~ John Lennon

“My idea of Christmas, whether old-fashioned or modern, is very simple: loving others. Come to think of it, why do we have to wait for Christmas to do that?”
 ~ American comedian Bob Hope

“Christmas gift suggestions:
To your enemy, forgiveness.
To an opponent, tolerance.
To a friend, your heart.
To a customer, service.
To all, charity.
To every child, a good example.
To yourself, respect.”
~ Oren Arnold

“This is the message of Christmas: We are never alone.”
~ Taylor Caldwell (1900-1985), English novelist.
