[...] Worry creates stress. And worry is like meditating on what you don’t want to happen. It actually makes the thing more likely to happen, plus it makes you feel stressed out as well. Know that worry is a CHOICE, and it’s a thing you can choose to be without. Again, take a longer term perspective…what were you worrying yourself sick about this time last year? What kept you awake at night in June 2005? Exactly. Most worries never come to fruition, so investing all that energy in them is a waste of headspace. Choose to drop the worry and focus on a positive outcome instead. . There are more tips on how not to worry in a recent post on how to quit worrying here: http://positivebalance.co.nz/how-to-stop-worrying-about-stuff/ [...]

Thanks for this little reminder about the futility of worrying. I am doing my first New Zealand scuba dive tomorrow and have inexplicably started getting anxious. It's been getting a little out of hand, but after reading this, I wrote down my ideal visualisation about tomorrow in detail and now I am focussing on how awesome and exhilarating it's going to be. I'm actually looking forward to it now and feel about a hundred times calmer!
